Photographers are set to create their own version of Alice in Wonderland as a photo montage 'storyboard', at an event taking place in London on Sunday.

The event, organised by Shoot Experience, challenges participants to 'construct photos' that represent their own take on Alice in Wonderland, a movie version of which is currently showing at UK cinemas.

A spokesman said: 'All the photos are then compiled to create a unique photographic storyboard, revealed in full on the big screen. Prizes are awarded for the best and most creative photos.

'No photography experience is necessary - expect talking tattoos, carnival queens, Portobello mushrooms and lots of fun.'

The best photos will form part of an exhibition to be held at a London gallery, details of which are yet to be confirmed.

Tickets for the Notting Hill event cost £15 and must be bought in advance.

Prizes will include Olympus cameras.

What pops up in your mind when you see the Chinese word juncao? Probably nothing too much apart from it seeming exotic.

However, for many poor farmers in Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Lesotho and Rwanda, juncao means a mushroom cash crop. It is a seemingly magic technology that enables them to grow many types of nutritious and delicious mushrooms from many kinds of dried chopped grasses, bringing in cash and dignity.

Some people even name their babies Juncao (jun meaning fungi, cao meaning grass.)

"I insisted on giving it a Chinese name," says the 67-year-old inventor of the mushroom-growing technology, Professor Lin Zhanxi, who addressed the first International Symposium on Juncao Industry Development. It was held 14 years ago in Fuzhou, capital of eastern China's Fujian Province.

"Over 20 English names were suggested, such as mushroom grass and fungus grass," says Lin, a professor at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. "But it's a brand-new technology and deserves a brand-new name. I'm glad I've given a new word to the English language."

The idea for juncao came from a hungry young Lin in the early 1970s. "People were starving in those days, even to death. But cattle rarely died of hunger. So I asked myself, why couldn't people eat grass just like cattle?"

In 1971, Lin put forward the idea of cultivating edible fungi in chopped-up wild grass - he was the first to do so. It was not until 1983, eight years after he entered the Fujian university, that he began the arduous research following up his idea.

At the end of 1986, Lin saw the world's first juncao mushroom sprout from a bottle filled with chopped bird's foot fern and other ingredients.

"I gazed at it in wonder and tears," Lin recalls. "We were at the threshold of an agricultural revolution."
These large flat objects with perpendicular projections aren't easy. Santucci, the owner-operator of the Elite Mushroom Co. in Avondale, can't remember a time when he wasn't growing Southern Chester County's trademark crop. "When you were old enough to walk, you were old enough to work," he said of the business and family he was born into on Feb. 19, 1920.
These days, unlike the early days of the 1900s, he's not shoveling manure or cracking open blocks of spawn. Instead, he checks the books, reviews the orders and monitors the operations.

We'd heard inklings, but Canon's brand new Rebel T2i (also known as the EOS 550D outside the US) is newly official and oh-so-desirable. The camera takes quite a few features from Canon's EOS 7D, including an almost identical sensor, the selectable frame rates, and the stereo mic jack. There's also a new widescreen LCD and button layout to differentiate it from its T1i sibling -- which will stick around on the market to pick up the poorer Canon lovers among us. The shooter can capture 18.7 megapixel stills at 3.7 fps, with better, 7D-style light metering and an expanded ISO range of 100 to 6400. Video is even more thrilling, with the addition of 30 / 25 / 24 fps 1080p (the T1i was limited to a silly 20 fps at that resolution), along with 720p at 50 / 60 fps and VGA at similar rates. The camera can also do an ultra-zoomed "movie crop" function that actually does the cropping on the CMOS sensor to provide about 7x of additional zoom without losing quality in SD. The T2i will hit retail in March for $800, with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens kit at $900. PR is after the break.
The theme is ‘Unique’, and the organisers are looking for images that capture this concept in the form of an unrepeatable moment, an exceptional sensation or a singular expression. The photo contest serves to promote Citroën’s newest model, the DS3, which can be personalised to each individual driver. The competition runs until 23rd March 2010, and the winner will receive a Citroën DS3 THP 150 DSport to use for a year with a total mileage allowance of 12,000 miles for the year.
NASA today released the most detailed set of images ever taken of the distant dwarf planet Pluto. The images taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope show an icy and dark molasses-colored, mottled world that is undergoing seasonal changes in its surface color and brightness. Pluto has become significantly redder, while its illuminated northern hemisphere is getting brighter. These changes are most likely consequences of surface ices sublimating on the sunlit pole and then refreezing on the other pole as the dwarf planet heads into the next phase of its 248-year-long seasonal cycle. The dramatic change in color apparently took place in a two-year period, from 2000 to 2002.

Hi everyone! This is a plea for help!

The forum you are currently browsing should be in an iframe within the website. I want to make it dynamically change the height of the iframe based on the actual size of its content (ie the forum) I have implemented a script as per the instructions on this website: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex...messi2.htm however it doesn't seem to work. Currently I have had to set the height at 1024 otherwise the forum doesn't show up correctly in most browsers and now I am stuck.

If you view the source code of this page you should be able to see how I have used the script. Can anyone show me where I've gone wrong?
